AluetteSUI 11
History
She is the last of the 5 alloy boats built for Gaston. Identical hull to Lafayette, Gitana Sixty, Dora and Gaulois. She was in storage from 1984 to 1997 and made her debut in Geneva in 1998. Initially to heavy with a shower and galley. Peter Groh bought her and shipped her to the Josef Martin yard in Radolfzell. There the was put on a diet, got a new Howlett wing keel (same as Hollandia) and came out as a frightening fast Eight. Simple to sail with a wide groove, balanced and moderate sailarea, great allround boat, fast in all conditions. With Eckhard Kaller at the tiller she was a consistent winner and, at least to my mind, the fastest of the “Fauroux Fife”. I was surprised that Aluette was not chosen to challenge RCYC/Hollandia for the Canada’s Cup as unquestionably Aluette will outperform Yquem (ex. Spirit in 2024 named Spirit once more) in any condition and under any point of sail. So, buy good sails for her and she’s the boat to beat on Lake Ontario.
