After many years the fantastic Eight Metre World Cup race will finally return to the Clyde.

In 2023 the beautiful Italian Clubhouse of the Royal Italian Yacht Club in Genoa was the host of the eight metre class world championship regatta. Genoa – August 28th / September 2nd

In summer 2022, the Eight Metre World Cup was held as part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Societe Nautique de Geneve.

The return of the mighty Eights to the Netherlands was delayed due to the global pandemic, but the hope remains for their eventual comeback.

The 2019 International 8 Metre Class World Cup in Cowes, held from July 20th to 27th, brought together top competitors for a week of intense racing.

The 2018 World Cup on Lake Constance, hosted in Langenargen, showcased 23 yachts, with varied weather conditions testing the fleet over six race days.

The 2017 World Cup in Hankø, Norway, a birthday gift from H.R.M. King Harald, featured 28 teams from 9 nations and a thrilling final day of racing in the Oslo fjord.

Lake Ontario hosted the 8 Metre World Cup Championship with 12 nations racing for the title.

The 2016 Wessel and Vett Cup in Copenhagen celebrated the Royal Danish Yacht Club’s 150th anniversary with races for the 8 mR European Cup and Neptune Trophy.

The 8 mR World Championship in Geneva concluded after a week of light winds, with 10 races completed and intense competition across categories.

The 8mR World Championship in La Trinité-sur-Mer, France, featured 27 challengers from ten nations competing under ideal conditions, highlighting the 8mR Class’s legacy.

The 2013 8mR World Cup in Helsinki, hosted by Helsingfors Segelsällskap, delivered exciting races and warm hospitality, with close competition across the fleet.

In 2012, the International 8 Metre World Championships return to Cowes, marking the first UK-hosted event since 2007 and the first in Cowes since 1911.

The 8-Metre World Championships saw intense competition with several divisions, including Modern, First Rule, and Neptune classes.

The 2010 8 Metre World Cup took place in Toronto, where Aluette of Switzerland won the World title and Raven took the Sira Cup.

The 8mR World Championship in Hyères featured thrilling races and challenging weather, bringing together top crews and classic yachts in a memorable regatta hosted by Société Nautique de Genève.

The 2007 8 Metre Centennial World Championship at the Royal Northern Yacht Club, sponsored by Chopard, saw Lafayette lead in competitive races marked by shifting winds and challenging visibility.

The 2006 Eight Metre International World Championship, held at Lake Constance, saw Sarissa overtake Hollandia for the lead after winning two races in variable wind conditions.

The 8 Metre World Cup in 2005, hosted by the Royal Canadian Yacht Club in Toronto, saw top international sailors competing for the prestigious North American Eight Metre Cup.

The 2004 8-Metre World Cup, hosted by the Société Nautique de Genève, brought together 29 teams from around the world.

The 8M IC World Championship kicked off in the Bay of Quiberon with a thrilling race.

In 2000, Finnish and Swedish sailors revived the 8-Metre World Cup in Finland, organizing a historic event with 40 yachts from 12 countries.
