History
Aun is a pretty special yacht. The last design by Johan Anker before he died was not built until it was discovered in the archives in Oslo in 2003. When David Vieira proposed the project to build this well developed hull shape, it did not take much to convince Yutaka Kobayaschi from Japan to take off where Mr. Anker stopped. She was to be built the way Johan Anker would have done, Lloyd's scantlings, mahogany planking on steam bent frames with a teak backbone. The yard of Absolut Restorations had the routine and got a free hand to source the finest materials. Working with David in Portugal and the North loft in Japan, Juliane Hempel designed her spars and the result was a beautiful and frightfully fast 8-Metre. When racing, Yutaka runs the front end of the boat and hands the tiller to his wife Tokiko. Aun won the prestigious Neptune Trophy in 2005.
