Built in City Island, New York City, from drawing number 9 of Olin Stephens, Conewago was the toast of the GreatLakes Eight Metre fleet during the glorious Canada's Cupyears stretching from 1930 to 1934. Although defeated inthe Rochester Yacht Club's selection trials of 1930,Conewago returned with changes to the sail plan and ballast,and made resounding defences in 1932 and 1934. NormWalsh of Toronto tracked her down after she fell intodisrepair and shipped her to Bronte, Ontario, in 1962 forrestoration. She experienced a second homecoming in 1975,when her present owner, Elwyn Cathcart of Port Credit,brought her to Toronto from Annapolis, Maryland, forextensive refurbishing.Bought by a Dutch owner in the early 2000, he took on the Job or restoring her at the Ventis yard. but running out of money the project has stopped and she is ready to be finnished ever since.
