Thisbe CAN 9

Thisbe was designed by Clinton Crane for Charles F.Adams, the first amateur to skipper a yacht in theAmerica's Cup. Built in City Island, New York City, shewas launched in 1929 to contest Long Island Sound'sSeawanhaka Cup. The 1930 Canada's Cup match broughther to Rochester, and she defended the trophy in an excitingseries. The smallest and lightest of all the Eights currentlysailing on Lake Ontario, Thisbe's underwater shape hasnever been modified. Since her purchase in 1973 by DickMitchele and Gerry Wood, she has sailed out of the PortCredit Yacht Club. She is undoubtedly one of the fastest ofher breed in the world. In 1983, she scored victories inLYRA, the Royal Canadian Yacht Club's Royal Week, theEight Metre Invitational and the overall championship.
