Venture II NOR 29

Currently under restoration nearly finished (march 2024)Won't make it to Schotland 2024 but hopefully Turku 2025.Will join the Oslo fjord Fleet soon, for racing. Built in 1938 in East Saugus, Massachusetts, Venture II was the only boat ever designed by one E.A. Shuman. She was purchased from Detroit interests by Norm Walsh of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club as a challenger for the 1954 Canada's Cup, which she won.Twenty years later, she was acquired by a syndicate from the Port Credit Yacht Club. Robin and Nicki Clarke soon bought her and returned her to the Royal Canadian Yacht Club fleet. Charles Peterson took over in 1979 and won the bulk of Eight Metre honors that season. Her present owner, Lorne F. Corley of the RCYC, bought her in the spring of 1982 and undertook ambitious renovations. Further repairs this spring haveVenture II primed for the new season. Considered one of the finest racing yachts of all time. Built in 1938 by the Britt Brothers in Saugus, Mass. USA. The designer was Arthur Shuman Jr.The boat is traditional in looks with a spoon bow, round bilge, full keel with attached rudder and transom stern.Specification: 44’11 long, beam 8’, draft 6’8’. Upon arrival in Canada in 1954, the name changed to “Venture II.” She has been moored at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club in Toronto ever since. First owner was Miss Nancy Leiter of Washington, D.C. Her first home port was Marblehead, Massachusetts. Venture’s original topside color was painted turquoise blue, decks azure blue, with a white boot top, a colorful combination in 1938. She was launched on May 14th and sailed her first race on June 4th of the same year, winning in her class by about 15 minutes against Eight Metre “Thisbe”. Venture is also the winner of the 1954 Canada’s Cup held on Lake Ontario, Canada. My family purchased Venture in 1983 and have had an excellent race record. Venture has won the 8 Metre Worlds (Sira division) in 1989, 1990, 1991. In 2005, she sailed in the 8 Metre Worlds placing 2nd (Sira division), and 3rd in the 2010 (Sira division).French & Webb of Belfast, Maine, USA did the restoration in 2009. Interior of the vessel was removed and completely rebuilt. The keel bolts were replaced and a new engine was installed.
