Details
The International 8-metre Class Athena, ex-Ilderim, was built for Swedish banker Marcus Wallenberg after he'd lost out on a gold medal and been relegated to fourth position in the 1936 Olympics. In 1939, Ilderim proved her competitive mettle and won the 8-metre Cup, beating the highly-impressive likes Pinuccia, Sira and Germania IV. Over the years, the sloop underwent many different name changes. in 2002, however, she was moved to the UK by Avia Willment who changed her name to Amorevita. She also underwent a major restoration. she was renamed Athena (after the daughter of the Greek god Zeus) in 2007 and took part in Cowes Week Regatta the same year.
